Buzzards Wood

Buzzards Wood is a 5 minute walk from the house. It offers an off-the-beaten-track 6.4km circular walk across bridges, up steep Devon hills, across styles, through fields, along hedgerows, all the while skirting the gorgeous Little Dart River. This is a walk that showcases Devon's natural beauty.

It's possible to see red and roe deer, otters and other woodland creatures.

See National Trust for more information

Birding

Buzzards Wood, formerly known as Thongsleigh Wood, was donated to the National Trust by Mr. Matteson in memory of his wife, with the request that it be called Buzzards after the birds they enjoyed watching there. The Little Dart River runs through the garden where visitors can expect to see buzzards, white-throated dippers, grey herons, kingfishers, and chiffchaffs.

In the evening enjoy listening to a variety of owls including the Tawny Owl, Little Owl, Short-eared and Long-eared Owl, and Barn Owl.
